The Cuddly Rapture

Patrick Rees

The Cuddly Rapture is an installation that draws upon mythology and comedy, the violence of banality (and the banality of violence), the climax of Apocalypse Now and the beauty of ugliness.

The artists says of The Cuddly Rapture; "I feel as though things tend to be fractured and dislocated, unified and compartmentalised, resolved and incoherent, horrific and inspirational. The Cuddly Rapture is inspired by this feeling of oscillating between multiple experiences and sensations and thus is perhaps simultaneously an investigation into mundane brutality in some of its forms, and a celebration of the redeeming features of existence such as humour, freedom of thought, and coffee."

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in performance and screen studies from Flinders University, Patrick Rees worked in the film industry (predominantly B grade) in Sydney as a performer and writer before returning to study visual arts at the College of Fine Arts at the University of NSW.
Rees was a founding member of the TwoPercent art collective in Adelaide and has exhibited consistently since 2007, including group exhibitions at Magazine Gallery, Format Gallery and Next Wave Festival, Melbourne. In 2011 Rees completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) degree at the University of South Australia. In 2012 he has exhibited at FELTspace, Adelaide and will travel to the USA to undertake a 3 month artist residency at RAID Projects, Los Angeles.
